An unforgettable experience-Mauritius

Even though the last visit to Mauritius was more than 5 years back but such was the beauty of this place that it has left a permanent imprint on me. This was a five day trip and accompanying me were my parents, sister and my family friends. For me, this was the perfect holiday as I love beach destinations and this trip involved exploring a lot of beautiful and pristine beaches. Apart from beaches, Mauritius also has a lot of natural beauty.

After a lot of planning, we left Delhi for Mauritius by an Air Mauritius flight on the morning of May 10, 2013. We reached Mauritius on the afternoon of May 2013 and were greeted by pleasant weather which was perfectly suited for us to explore this beautiful island country. We checked into our hotel (Radisson Blu Poste Lafayette) and were lucky enough to get a room just a few metres away from the beach. The hotel was spectacular to say the least and we decided to spend the first day exploring the hotel and relaxing at the hotel beach. For dinner, we had an awesome multi-cuisine buffet.

On Day 2 of our tour, we visited the city of Port Louis. Port Louis is the capital city of Mauritius and is located in the First, we visited the Pamplemousse Botanical Garden. The light drizzle made the gardens look even better. The botanical garden was initially opened as a private garden by the French governor of Mauritius nearly 300 years ago, later to become the national botanical garden of Mauritius.
The botanical garden stretches over endless acres of land and it may take you more than a week to cover the whole garden. It is populated with more than 650 varieties of plants among which are the famous Baobabs, the Palmier Bouteille, the ineluctable Giant Water Lilies, dozens of medicinal plants, a large spice garden and many more.

After Botanical Gardens we visited the seven coloured earth, St. Mauritius Church and Le Caudan Waterfront. Being a Bollywood fan, visiting the St. Mauritius Church was an exciting experience given the number of movies that have been shot there. Le Caudan has many restaurants and shops. We had a sumptuous lunch at Pizza Hut before doing some shopping.

Day 3 was probably the most exciting part of the trip as we visited the island, Ile Aux Cerfs. The island of Ile aux Cerfs lies off Trou d’Eau Douce (East coast of Mauritius) in the largest lagoon of Mauritius and offers picturesque surroundings in a “chic and wild” setting for a breathtaking experience of natural beauty. It is also home to one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, the Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club, an 18-hole championship golf course designed by two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer. At Ile Aux Cerfs, we first took a speedboat ride and got to see the point where the river meets the sea. Infact we could see the colour changing from river to the sea. The speedboat took us to a wooden platform in the middle of the sea from where we did parasailing. I had done parasailing before at many places but this was a different experience altogether as it involved taking off and landing in the middle of the sea. An error here and there and one could easily land in the sea water. After completing our para sailing we did banana boat and bumper boat rides. We also had lunch at the beach restaurant there. We reached hotel after an adventurous day and enjoyed the evening in the hotel by dancing to the tunes of the live band playing there.

On day 4 of our trip, we visited Trou-aux-Biches. This was again a superb beach just like the beach of Ile Aux Cerfs, however with smaller waves. After this, we took our pre-booked trip in a submarine at Blue Safari Submarine. This was another unique and unforgettable experience. It was breathtaking to see undersea corals and fish.

Day 5 was the final day and this day was kept for relaxing. We preferred mainly to stay in the hotel and relax at the hotel beach. In the evening, we went to Port Louis and had dinner at an Indian restaurant, Namaste. The food was good but we do get better food in India.

And this was the end of one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.
